Fame and Friendship

"Fame and Friendship" is very short poem, but it give us the moral message of our life. It is written by H.A. Dobson.

Generally, H.A. Dobson was an English poet and essayist. His works are so tremendous that who study his works are obviously struck by its maturity. Dobson wrote about the human relationship and professionalism.

This poem is divided into two stanzas. The poem fallen upon two parts. Both stanza have based upon two concepts like.....(1)Fame (2)Friendship

*Explanation of poem:-

In the poem-Fame and Friendship we can see that, how in a very short stanzas, the poet can mentioned two different elements of our life, Fame and Friendship. Here, Fame is a food according to the poet, which is eaten only by the dead men.

By this, he may tries to convey us that... a man become famous only after his death.

Fame is a food,

that dead man eat:

I have no stomach,

for such a meat.

It shows that, a man ultimately should not have such desire of being famous even after the death. The dead person eat that fame in a silent tomb, where little light and narrow space remains and there only in a very lonely place he can be famous.

Then, in the second stanza...

It turns on friendship where  comparison between fame and friendship shows, Friendship's level higher than fame.

At the end of  our life, we only leaves memories behind which can be a medium to recall us for those who were in our touch up till our last breathing. If we are trying to be special or memorable even after the death then fame doesn't leads towards that distraction but - friendship that we shares truly can last till the end though we will no more.

Ultimately, it shows the immortality of friendship on the side of fame.

Through this poem, poet further desires that....he is not interested in this kind of human face. Poet considers friendship is nobler than fame. So we can say that, friendship is much more precious than fame and any other fortune.

In short, this poem conveys us that fame is mortal and friendship is immortal.
