Cultural Studies and Postcolonialism

Online discussion on Cultural Studies and Postcolonialism

Sharmeen obaid Chinoy 's Got Oscar award for her documentary " A Girl in the River " has been much celebrated at home. It is about honor killing in Pakistan.
general belief of the people is that writer must write about the glory and positive side of their country, and we Asian believe that western people give awards on our bed images and they happy because western people feel happy when they see our poor condition
people who like to see the glory of their Nation not accept him . The same thing happens in Slum Dog Millionaire movie. In this movie also showing  the reality of India. It also got Oscar award. These  writers respected by white people. So the question is that why the Indians and Pakistani writers get not respect by their own Nation.
                                   Thank you..!

Documantry: River and Tide

Documantry film review: Rever and Tide

Rivers and Tides depicts the magical relationship between art and nature while painting a visually intoxicating portrait of famed artist Andy Goldsworthy. It makes sense-luscious sculptures entirely out of things he finds in nature — stones, twigs, leaves, plant stalks, clay, ice, snow. Goldsworthy is seen working on new creations as he explains his philosophy that brings together a Zen-like appreciation of the natural world, a deeply felt connection with the Earth and all its thousand things, a fascination with time and the ephemeral existence of objects, a respect for place and all the marvels discovered within a space that one knows intimately, and a yearning to explore the energy that is running through the landscape. Sometimes his works change before our eyes and even pass away before we have savored all their mystery and magic. But to the artist, this is all part of the process.

"Art for me is a form of nourishment," Goldsworthy says, and we see what he means as he begins to assemble his earthwork arrangements. Arriving for a new commission in Nova Scotia, he has only a little time to familiarize himself with the seaside terrain. He respects the processes of life and death reflected in nature. As the sun illuminates the finished sculpture, he notes, "The very thing that brought it to life, will bring about its death." This is only one of the many spiritual insights emerging from his art.
                                                                                                                                       Thank you..!

ELT 2: Technology and Education

 Technology and Education System
Educational technology is "the study and ethical practice of facilitating learning and improving performance by creating, using, and managing appropriate technological processes and resources".

1) Why is it necessary to use Technology in Education?
➤Technology can be utilized to improve teaching and learning and help our students be successful. ... Through the use of learning management systems (LMS) students can access online resources to get assistance on demand beyond the physical reach of their teacher. Technology can also extend education in another way.

2) What is the difference between 'using' and 'integrating' technology?
➤Technology provides innovative learning opportunities for students and teachers alike, but it’s important to recognize that there is a difference between technology integration and simply using technology in the classroom. Integrating technology into classroom instruction means more than teaching basic computer skills and software applications in a separate computer class. Effective technology integration must happen across the curriculum in ways that research shows deepen and enhance the teaching and learning process.

3) How can we integrate technology?
➤Technology integration is the use of technology tools in general content areas in education in order to allow students to apply computer and technology skills to learning and problem-solving. Generally speaking, the curriculum drives the use of technology and not vice versa.

4) Can technology replace teacher?
➤Technology can never replace the sense of belonging a student has with his teachers. In fact, it is great teachers who make using technology so significant in students' education.

5) Write in brief on David Crystal's views on 'effect of new technologies on English language', 'biggest challenge for English language teachers in the times of internet', and 'texting is good for English language'.
➤Technologies influence the language in quite specific ways. New variety of language texting has been condemned as "textese", "slanguage" a 'digital viruse'. People think that the written language seen mobile phone is new but all the popular beliefs about texting are wrong. Texting has added a new dimension to language use but it's long-term impact is negligible. It is not a disaster.
6)Name one web-tool which can help in development of all four L-S-R-W skills.
➤I’m using the blogger app Which is a part of my study and unit activity it’s very helpful to me  be corrected my mistake and increasing my LSRW skills.

NEVER! You can keep trying till my last breathe. Because now, I have faith. I have faith upon me & faith of my faith.

Biggest thanks is only  to only You "SAMAY". Thank you so much.

Either you need or not, I am always there with you, for you my dear Zindgi."

The White Tiger

Thinking Activity of The White Tiger

1) How far do you agree with
the Indiarepresented in the novel The White Tiger?
India's representation in the novel by the symbol of light and darkness. Light represent the Urbana areas, wealth and success and darkness represent the rural areas, poverty, struggling of individual to come out from that in this the symbol of black fort. But it's more far away from real India's image. What's portrait in this novel by character of balaram halway. India in the real sense not like that, so we can say that in the novel writer express very dul image of India rather than reality.

2) Do you believe that Balram's story is the archetype of all stories of 'rags to riches'?

He believes his own story of entrepreneurial success and his rags to riches tale will show the premier the all that fascinates and appeals to Balaram halway about the light of urban coastal India. He controls light and darkness, when he once was a slave to circumstances and others.

3)"Language bears within itself the necessity of its own critique, deconstructive criticism aims to show that any text inevitably undermines its own claims to have a determinate meaning, and licences the reader to produce his own meanings out of it by an activity of semantic 'freeplay' (Derrida, 1978, in Lodge, 1988, p. 108). Is it possible to do deconstructive reading of The White Tiger? How?

➤ In the novel Balaram Halway's character that may be autobiography of half naked indian. It's deconstruction reading of Adiga's the white tiger and it's more perceive the character of Halway because adiga present reality of life or indian people's life by the protagonist of the novel. It self gives insight with deconstruction content and language bears express reality of culture and many other things.

➤ Narrative structure:- The novel and film almost similar and parallel structure. It's start with flashback techniques. In the novel going with poster writer talking about this and movie going with KBC questions it's leads Jamal's past.

➤ Indianness:- In this we can include some elements of India like corruption, train, Religion, education system, dark side of India, poverty.

➤ List of Questions:-

➤ Reference with postcolonial theories:-

It's reflect that white people portrayed as a good and gentle fellow, civilized, sophisticated and humble people. This term it self based on the power dynamics. It shows the superiority of white on the Indian people. It's helps to question the power of dynamic between colonial centers and margin.

➤ Texture and treatment of subject content in film and novel

This film and novel based on darker side of India. In this novel corruption and education system. in the novel we can see that poor people's life suffering and struggle. In the novel criticized poverty as the darker side of India and also shown a darker side of religion by representation of Hanuman as a slave of Ram. And Ganga the river of India also shown darker side of India. Both the work differs from each other on the bases of treatment given to wrong people. Its describe the each and every part of India.

                                                                                                                                                                                                   Thank you..!

One night @ the call center

Thinking activity of One night  @ the call center

1) Comment on Narrative structure of the Novel. Compare it with that of Life of Pi.
In this novel writer's narartnar structure is very important apart from the what is story and how some part is also important, in the novel usage of travelling into the train. Story told by shyam, his character reflect prologue and epilogue by this narrative structure shaped in effective impression. In the both novel experience at the last with God and end up with this divin perspective creation.

2) What do you understand by Self-help book ? Is On@cc is self-help book ? Illustrate.
Self - Help means self - guided improvement - economically , intellectually or emotionally , often with a substantial psychological basis. A self - help book is one that is written with the intention to instruct its readers on solving personal problem.
God or Inner call that about intelligence , self - confidence or failure in life. Remember the ' Reverse Gear ' and make friendship with adversity.
We have to finds solution for problem. In the novel characters finds solutions for thier problems. Thus it is self-help book. Ko

3) 3. How far can this novel be  categorised as Cy
berpunk ?
This novel is connected with the science and technology. In the novel we saw that there is much use of technology and science. The all characters are the users of high technology. All the characters some how connected with the computers and other technology. So, this novel called as cyberpunk novel.

4)What is popular Literature ? Is On@cc is popular Literature ? Illustrare.
popular literature has this kind of structure of the works. In the one night at the call center shows the solutions of the problems through character of God. It has not intellectual solution of problems. Then she forced him to write it as his second book without mentioning her name. Chetan Bhagat then write story and used one character Shyam for narration. In this way it becomes unreliable. There is similarity of narrative structure between Life of Pi and One Night @call centre.

5)Does the novel have social realism ?
yes, we can see in many ways social Realism applied in different things and also structure. In the novel characters suffered in their life by this reluctant idealism.

The Sense of an Ending

Thinking Activity of the Sense  of an Ending

1)How do you understand memory and history with reference to your reading of this novel.
We all have our own narratives of life. You have a “version” of that life that is a story you tell to yourself and others, about what your life has been. But it is only that, a story, and it is just one version of a possible number of stories. Tony realizes that the version of his life that he has told himself is based on a recollection of an event that is inherently wrong. He comes to realize that the distortion of memory can change anything and everything that he had believed true for so long.

2) How do you understand the concept of suicide with reference to your reading of literature ranging from Renaissance play Hamlet, 20th cen Existentialist philosophy and this 21st cen novel The Sense of an Ending?
In the novel if talk about Adrian, he ended his life with certain clarity. In the novel we find it to suicide was attempt , when robson and committed suicide, at that time people started knowing that that one person committed suicide and all the narration going with him after getting suicide till then  no one knows him after that everyone know him so it's better than committed suicide and there is not a single connection with morality that concept has changed.

Da Vinci Code

Thinking Activity of Da Vinci Code

1) Brown states on his website that his books are not anti-Christian, though he is on a 'constant spiritual journey' himself, and says that his book The Da Vinci Code is simply "an entertaining story that promotes spiritual discussion and debate" and suggests that the book may be used "as a positive catalyst for introspection and exploration of our faith."
The Da Vinci Code is suspense thriller and anti non christian novel. here so many things together, Through the murder mystery he unfolds the factual things about the Christianity. The painting of Leonardo Da Vinci, The Last Supper which tells about the relation between Jesus and mary Magdalene. Narrative structure
firmly bound with spiritual thinking not religions standpoints because both are different things.Novel try to explore the Christianity and related myth, as we all know that mythical story are never true it's just human beings imagination so maybe we can except that this work Da Vinci Code maybe just try to explore the darker side of Christianity and there is nothing wrong just because it's a literature.

2)“Although it is obvious that much of what Brown presented in his novel as absolutely true and accurate is neither of those, some of that material is of course essential to the intrigue, and screenwriter Akiva Goldsman has retained the novel's core, the Grail-related material: the sacred feminine, Mary Magdalene's marriage, the Priory of Sion, certain aspects of Leonardo's art, and so on.” How far do you agree with this observation of Norris J. Lacy?
The pagan religion note in Christianity we find it just because as other religion are also believe in patriarchy and Christianity also believe in patriarchy so there is a doubtful on Shepherd feminine just because sometime we believe that purity come with the man but we forget that woman has home that only has power to give a life in this universe that's why the sacred feminine is more powerful than other.

3) (If)You have studied ‘Genesis’ (The Bible), ‘The Paradise Lost’ (John Milton) and ‘The Da Vinci Code’ (Dan Brown). Which of the narrative/s seem/s to be truthful? Whose narrative is convincing to the contemporary young mind?
In both narrative religion as superior institution presented . Some want to preserve and some want to destroy it.  It shows religion control mankind. Both not much convincing at some level narrative of ' The Da Vinci Code ' convince to contemporary young mind.

4) What harm has been done to humanity by the biblical narration or that of Milton’s in The Paradise Lose? What sort of damage does narrative like ‘The Vinci Code’ do to humanity?
This is the case with the description of 'Vinci Code' in which the author attempts to open the eyes of religious people who represent the relationship of Jesus Christ. She thinks that sexual worship falls under the frame of the spiritual annals. Everyone is needed to get richness in peace and peace. God is also a human being who needs someone to satisfy his own desires. These thoughts try to awaken all religious people. However, it can be harmful to people who have strong or superstition followers of religion.

5) What difference do you see in the portrayal of 'Ophelia' (Kate Winslet) in Kenneth Branagh's Hamlet, 'Elizabeth' (Helena Bonham Carter) in Kenneth Branagh's Mary Shelley's Frankenstein or 'Hester Prynne' (Demi Moore) in Roland Joffé's The Scarlet Letter' or David Yates's 'Harmione Granger' (Emma Watson) in last four Harry Potter films and 'Sophie Neuve' (Audrey Tautau) in Ron Howard's The Da Vinci Code? How would justify your answer?
In this book we can see that the women character is presented as an object of man except the character of Hester Prynne. She is the real heroine of novel and the main  male character  is weak here. In all other literary books women character is come after male character. In Da Vinci code also the character of Sophie is more powerful than other male but after that she become dumb character.

6) Do novel / film lead us into critical (deconstructive) thinking about your religion? Can we think of such conspiracy theory about Hindu religious symbols / myths?
Yes,We can easily deconstruct the story of Da Vinci code. It raised openly attack on Christianity  and it's follower, debate  in people's mind. In Hindu religion also there is some elements which we can deconstruct but it needs more time. There are so many examples which can be helpful for deconstruct the Hindu God. Now we can also deconstruct it with raise questions against it and read it as it is against of it.

7) Have you come across any similar book/movie, which tries to deconstruct accepted notions about Hindu religion or culture and by dismantling it, attempts to reconstruct another possible interpretation of truth?

Yes we can find this kind of things in GOD TUSSI GREAT HO movie, it's deconstruct the idea of god, and the existence of god.

8) When we do traditional reading of the novel ‘The Da Vinci Code’, Robert Langdon, Professor of Religious Symbology, Harvard University emerges as protagonist and Sir Leigh Teabing, a British Historian as antagonist. Who will claim the position of protagonist if we do atheist reading of the novel?
Sir Leigh Teabing, was the protagonist of this movie just because he want to  reveal The Secret that's why he was doing for humanity not for on his self just because he want to save humanity and he want to  expose the Church has the destroyed humanity and the poor people and woman that's why he was protagonist.
On my point of view Robert Langdon was not protagonist of this movie.
9) Explain Ann Gray’s three propositions on ‘knowability’ with illustrations from the novel ‘The Da Vinci Code’.
Deals with the assumption, all the characters claims that they are known something.
Sir Leigh Teabing and Robert Langton both are in the quest for the truth of Holy Grail.
ir Leigh Teabing known about the greed of Aringarosa whereas Langdon and Sophie has pure intentions.

Harry Potter: Web Quest

Harry potter web quest

To view Rubric Evaluation Click Here

1) Feminist reading of Harmione’s character in Harry Potter: How do the character portrayal of Harmione and other female characters support feminist discourse?
Hermione an essential part of harry potter's life.she is a strong female character and also a protagonist in her own way right. Throughout the series many different parts shows strong female character including a friend, mother, sister, student but Hermione Granger is a good example of the character might present portrayed in many parts. She is expressive and clever girl. she have a courage and also have a leadership. she is the perfect example when examining the feminist principle in the novel. she have a many strength as well it makes sense of the mystery at hand when she search something in library. she is repeatedly the truth-sleuth and comfort at the library. she is a good role model because she works very hard to demonstrate her self as a girl and also improve to everyone that is she is courageous, faithful, intelligent and also helpful person and capable.

 2) Discourse on the purity of Blood and Harry Potter: How do the novels play with the thesis of pure blood (Master Race) giving an anti-thesis by belonging protagonists to half-blood / Mud-blood? What sort of synthesis is sought in this discourse in Harry Potter series?
Purity of blood also concept of blood status, is a concept in the wizarding world that distinguishes between family trees that have different levels of magically endowed members. protagonist of the half blood and mud blood is a really foul name for someone who is muggle born, non-magic parents. Mudbloods a highly offensive term implying that the individual has dirty and inferior blood. The issue of blood purity in harry potter is allegory of racism. pure blood indicating that they have no muggle born ancestors in their family tree.
Pure or half blood parent and muggle parent like serverus snap the actual titular half blood prince, muggle father and witch mother. Pure or half blood parent and muggle born parent like harry potter muggle born witch mother and wizard father.Magical parents but with muggle ancestory like teddy lupin who has muggle ancestory through his mother tonks who had edward tonks, a muggle born wizard as her father.this are the distinctions of half bloods.

3)Confronting reality by reading fantasy: How does reading Harry Potter make us confront the reality of our everyday existence?
➤Fantasy highlights some illusions of reality, but the discussion of the above topics has led to the conclusion that while, like Potter, there may be inconsistencies in life, we find continuity and meaning from our memories, senses, mind, identity, etc., that allows us to believe in reality. This series between the myth, reality and fantasy.
the character Harry Potter and how he is a hero but with moral flaws and that means that he is a normal teenager but encounters extraordinary circumstances and reacts in a psychologically credible manner.
